• One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn't pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore faith in yourself.

Knight Commander

Posted by R. A. Michaels on August 20th, 2006

Eight months following the outbreak of a civil war between two spacefaring nations within the confines of the Terran solar system, Commander Jaime Knight of the Earth Confederation’s Stellar Defense Force is placed in command of a protoype cruiser named CSS Avenger by her mentor, Admiral Hayes. Joined by her former best friend and newly-promoted executive officer, Lieutenant Commander Teresa “Teri” Fisher, Knight ventures off to battle under a fleet commander who has no respect for her. Coming under fire by the forces of the enemy nation, the Republic of Sol, Avenger’s captain and crew receive orders to locate the fleeing Admiral Hayes before she successfully defects to Hope Station.

Status: Sixth Revision.

Trivia:

  • The cruiser CSS Avenger was originally named CSS Reprisal in draft zero, and CSS Challenger in subsequent drafts.
  • Was originally a short story intended to be in an anthology of short stories about Hope Station.
  • Was intended to be the fourth book in the Knight series, after Knight Commissioned (short story collection), Knight Ascendent, and The Stormy Knight.
  • Originally intended to be the final voyage of the aged escort destroyer CSS John Glenn, the Glenn makes a cameo appearance back on active duty in Knightfall.
